Minney Richani is a young writer and poet whose work explores a deep and personal connection to the Syrian conflict, those afflicted by it and the sense of misplaced identity it has caused. Minney’s writing is influenced by past and current relationships, her clashing Australian/Syrian nationality, her strong views towards any form of discrimination and the constant struggle of finding herself. Minney’s travel story, memoir and poems have appeared in various publications and media platforms.
Amongst The Grape Vines is a collection of short stories, shorter short stories and poetry. The multi-genre range of pieces explore a deep and personal connection to the Syrian conflict, those afflicted by it and the sense of misplaced identity it has caused. This collection uncovers the challenges associated with being part of an Australian, Syrian diaspora; the struggle to understand and belong in both worlds and the migrant experience. The author’s hope is to achieve the shedding of light on the ongoing crisis in Syria and to make people aware of the fact that to identify as Syrian is not to identify as one thing or to have one particular story. Also to create a better understanding of the idea that an Australian-Syrian that does not live in Syria will still inherit the pain, the loss, the guilt, the sense of being misplaced.
The collection will be published by Riza Press in December 2020, and will be available online and in print through all major retailers.
